- This game was originally going to be developed by TT-Oxford, responsible for Crash Twinsanity. Evil Crash was intended to be a playable character, but that and a lot of other things were changed or removed after Radical Entertainment got the role of developing this game.
- A DS version was originally planned to be released, and Sensory Sweep was in charge of its development. Zero screenshots and information about this version have ever surfaced, and there was never a public cancellation of it.
- One of the 3D artists of the game, Dan Roarty, hid a secret message behind the scenery in Midway, which is nearly impossible to see because of the camera angle. The message is simply "DR + NF" in very small letters. Community members CrashHappy and HP Zoner managed to find the message and decipher "DR", which stands for Dan Roarty. After being e-mailed about it, Dan Roarty was surprised about it and he confirmed that it was a message dedicated to someone special, and that it had been the first time someone found it without his indications.
- Community member JumpButton was the first person to e-mail Darren Esau, who had left his e-mail address in Cortex and N. Gin's credit comments (available to listen only in the US NTSC version). Darren Esau jokingly stated in his reply that "[JumpButton] disproved [his] theory that the only people who read videogame credits are the developers themselves."
- CrashTTR had very mixed opinions from the fans, because although the gameplay was overall considered fun and varied, the characters suffered massive changes to their personalities and appearances (something that was commonly criticized by the majority of fans).
- This game was voted Best 2006 Video Game in the Nickelodeon magazine (and Crash was also voted Best Character), winning a total of 2 Golden Thumb Awards.
- This game was the first in the series to be rated higher than E in NTSC regions (E+10) and +3 in PAL regions (+6, +7).
- The music in The Tragic Kingdom (a PSP-only battle arena) comes directly from Twinsanity's Rooftop Rampage.
- Von Clutch's name might be a pun on "Von Dutch", a clothing company.
- Pasadena seems to be based on Penelope Pitstop, an animated Hanna-Barbera character most famous for her roles in Perils of Penelope Pitstop and Wacky Races.
- Indiana Jones - The Classic Crash skin and the first Gem cutscene are both parodies of Indiana Jones. The music in Pyramid Pass's last lap (when in 1st or 2nd place) is heavily based on Indy's theme.
- Star Trek - The Space Crash skin looks exactly like the outfits worn by the crew in Star Trek.
- The Simpsons: Hit & Run - The random people who walk in the park have a lot of lines from that game. One of the game's text hints is "Have you played Hit & Run? Man, that was a great game." Also, the coin sounds and the explosion animations come directly from that game, as it was developed by the same team.
- Helen Reddy - Most characters have one line saying "I am [character's name], hear me roar!". This is a reference to Helen Reddy's song entitled "I am Woman (Hear me Roar)".
- Mr. T/BA Barracus - Crunch serves as a parody of Mr. T in this game, and he has a skin named "Mr. Crunch", which makes him look just like Mr. T. Some of his lines come directly from BA Barracus, Mr. T's character in the A-Team show.
- Jurassic Park - The gate in the start line of Fossil Fuel Injection looks just like the one from Jurassic Park.
- Tetris - The music from Tire & Ice takes from a few Russian themes. Some bits of the normal theme reminisce of Karinka, and the last lap music (1st to 2nd place) is a variation of Korobeiniki. Both songs were used in the video-game Tetris.
- Pirates of the Caribbean - The music themes from the race tracks Pirates of the Carburetor and Tiki Turbo are based on the score from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. The first track is also an obvious pun on that movie's title.
- Night on The Bald Mountain - In the track Evilocity, if the first player is in 3rd to 5th place in the last lap, the music switches to a recreation of the classic theme called Night on The Bald Mountain.
- Bad Boys - One of Nina's lines derives from the movie Bad Boys, but with the word "boys" replaced by "girls": "Bad girls, bad girls, what you 'gonna do?"
- Bach's Double Concerto - The beginning of the music from Tire & Ice derives from it.
- Hungarian Dance No. 5 - In the middle of the music in Tire & Ice, you can hear a recreation of Hungarian Dance No. 5.
- Who Let The Dogs Out? - Sometimes, if Cortex wins a race, he'll sing "Who let the canines out, who, who, who?". This is a song by Baha Men, but with "dogs" instead of "canines".
- Rawhide - Cortex sings this tune at times, when he starts the car after a complete stop: "Rolling, rolling, rolling!"
- Disco Inferno - Upon starting his car after a complete stop, Cortex will often say "Burn, baby, burn! Like a Disco Inferno!" (a reference to the album entitled "DIsco Inferno").
- Scooby Doo - One of Willie's lines is "And I would have succeeded too, if it wasn't for you meddling bandicoots!". This was a line used often by villains in the Scooby Doo show, but with "kids" instead of "bandicoots".
- Homestar Runner - One of Crunch's lines is "I burninated that chum!", which is a reference to Trogdor The Burninator, from Homestar Runner. He also says "Ha ha, your car a splode!", another reference to Homestar Runner.
- Debi Derryberry - Sometimes when Coco's car gets blown up, she'll say "Awww, derryberries!", which is a reference to her own voice actress, Debi Derryberry.
- Howard Cosell and George Foreman - Chick 'N Stew are parodies of these two commentators, respectively.
- Back To The Future - When Cortex starts his car after a complete stop, he'll often say "1.8 Gigawatts of power!", which is a reference to the "Back to The Future" movies, in which the DeLorean car needed the same amount of power in order to travel through time.
- Naughty Dog - The creators of Crash are parodied in Mystery Island, in a sign that says "Wet Dog" and shows a paw print that looks exactly like the one used in Naughty Dog's logo, but with a yellow colour instead of red.
- White Heat - One of Coco's lines is "Top of the World, 'ma!", which is taken from the movie "White Heat".
- Saturday Night Live - N. Gin sometimes says "Don't fear the reaper! I need more cowbell! I DON'T HAVE A COWBELL!!", which is a reference to an emission of the show "Saturday Night Live".
- Star Wars - One of Pasadena's lines is "Striking me down will only make me stronger", a reference to Obi-Wan from the Star Wars movies.
- Full Metal Jacket - A Park Drone says a line from this movie sometimes, if he's hit by Crash: "What is your major malfunction?!".
- Highlander - N. Gin sometimes says "There can be only one!", a line from the movie Highlander.
- Wonder Twins - Two of N. Gin's lines are references to the Wonder Twins: "Form of... a killing machine!"; "Cybernetic merge powers... ACTIVATE!". Cortex also has a reference line to them: "Powers of Cortex... ACTIVATE!".
- The Silence of the Lambs - One of Cortex's lines is taken from Dr. Hannibal Lecter: "[...] revenge is a dish best served with fava beans?"
- Invader Zim - Sometimes N. Gin will say "Sing the doom song!", which is a reference to Gir's doom song from the Invader Zim show.
- Planet of the Apes - The Park Drone who sells the third Crystal in Tomb Town is impersonating Charlton Heston, a character from the movie "Planet of the Apes".
- W. C. Fields/My Little Chickadee - One of the Park Drones in Astro Lands impersonates W. C. Fields, by quoting his famous catchphrase ("My little chickadee!"), as he says "Ouch, my little chickadee! That's discomforting!", when he's hit sometimes. As W. C. Fields's catchphrase is associated with the movie with the same name, the Park Drone's line is also a reference to it.
- Purple Haze - One of Pasadena's lines ("'scuse me while I touch the sky") is a reference to the lyrics from Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze", which go "'scuse me while I kiss the sky".
- Walk Like an Egyptian - This song is parodied by the battle arena called "Fight Like an Egyptian".
- The Magic Kingdom - The battle arena called "The Tragic Kingdom" is a parody of this Walt Disney World theme park.
- Dead Meat - The track "Dead Heat" is named as a parody of the movie called Dead Meat.
- Fairy tales - Many fairy tale stories are parodied in this game. Some levels are named after stories or expressions found in them: Happily Ever Faster ("happily ever after), Once Upon a Tire ("once upon a time") and Track and the Beanstalk (Jack and the Beanstalk). Additionally, numerous fairy tale characters and objects are found and parodied in the game. These include Rapunzel (the Park Drone with the Power Gem), Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs (ironically giant-sized), The Frog Prince, etc.
- Super Size Me - One of Nina's lines, "Super size me!" is a reference to the movie with the same name.
- The Hindenburg - Von Clutch often says "This reminds me of the Hindenburg!", a reference to the famous German zeppelin that caught fire in 1937
- The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Cortex's line "Can you sense the antici... pation?" is a reference to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in which Tim Curry's character pauses during the word 'anticipation' in the exact same manner.
- Queer Eye For the Straight Guy - The Park Drone who sells Crash the Skeleton outfit in Astro Land claims to be from "Drone Eye for the Bandicoot Guy", a parody of the television show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
- Boris Karloff - The Park Drone who sells Crash the Mad Scientist outfit in Tomb Town speaks in the same manner as Boris Karloff, an iconic horror movie actor.
- Kraftwerk - Von Clutch's line during races, "Wir fahr'n fahr'n fahr'n auf der Autobahn!" is from the song Autobahn by Kraftwek, a German band. He also sometimes says "Music non-stop, dummkopf!", which is a reference to Musique Non-Stop, another song from the same band.
- La Brea Tar Pits - The name of these pits from Los Angeles is parodied with the race track "Labrea Car Pits".
- There is a remix of the Twinsanity theme in the credits. The original tune is sometimes heard in the background of certain FMVs.
