Unbuckle your seat belts *UPDATED*

In a disappointing and not all unexpected turn of events, the new Crash Team Racing by High Impact Games has been cancelled. And for quite a while, it would seem.

Justin Rasch, the developer whose resumé indicated the possibility of such a game, was recently e-mailed about it. Here are his comments about the no-longer upcoming Crash Team Racing:

---

«I am not involved with this project anymore -it was cancelled- it was never announced....and never hapened

it does not exist ....

the only way you guys could ever get this game made....is by writing activision and sending in requests.
Thats your best bet on getting it produced.»

It truly is a shame. What could have been the return of everyone's favourite bandicoot has essentially been pushed back even further. What's more, High Impact Games is partially composed of ex-Naughty Dog members (the team behind the original Crash Team Racing for the PlayStation), so they had that going for them.

Remember Justin's closing words, though. If you truly want something like this to happen, you can always try your luck and ask Activision. Be sure to remember that there never was a prototype, so leave that out of your message if you decide to e-mail them.

Thanks go not only to Justin Rasch, for clarifying the matter and for his inspiring words, but also to Crashpro3, the fan who e-mailed him and got the answer. Cheers, mate!

We've been waiting for too long now, Activision. When are you going to show us Crash is in good hands?

UPDATE: I don't really want to have to say this, but the increasingly negative reaction towards Activision in general and this cancellation in particular may start to get out of hand soon. It's fine to let Activision know how much you were anticipating Crash Bandicoot's return, but please do the rational thing and don't hurt the franchise or the fanbase - if you're going to e-mail Activision, make sure you compose a civilized and well-written message. Hate mail is not going to help. It's only going to make things worse.

The last thing we need right now is Activision locking Crash in the drawer because of an uncooperative fanbase. They have the rights to the franchise and they will handle it as they see fit. If you feel unhappy about their choices, you can do the right thing and send them some healthy feedback. Like the old saying goes, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
